What helps this latest Codemaster racer stand out from the pack is that unlike many of the racing sims you can have a lot of fun and end the Dirt Tour career mode a champion regardless of your prowess behind the wheel. While you might think this means it isn’t challenging enough for seasoned off road racers nothing could be further from the truth.

Your opponents are far from pushovers, in fact they can put up one hell of a fight leading to many a nail biting finish, but the vehicle handling and damage is forgiving and the difficulty level can be altered before every event, so the better you get the more of a challenge you can set yourself.

A slick flashback feature also gives you the option to instantly replay portions of a race if you make a mess of it, a virtual reality muligan for the perfectionists amongst us. So while Dirt 2 isn’t as realistic as some of the other excellent off-road racers that have come before it, it’s the most accessible and just as exciting as any of them.
